Questions about the custom star map
Is the star map actually accurate?
Yes. We compute the sky from the HYG star catalog, around 9,000 stars down to magnitude 6.5 with all 88 constellations, for the date, time and coordinates you enter, and account for the rotation of the Earth at that location. Dates from 1900 to 2100 are supported. The accuracy page explains the method in full.
Do I need to know the exact time?
No. If you know it, enter it and the map is correct to the minute. If not, leave the default evening time; the sky for that night is still right, only rotated slightly.
Can I see the whole map before I pay?
Yes. The designer shows the full map as you edit it, with your date, place, words and design applied. Nothing is hidden until purchase and there is no account to create.
Can I print the digital file myself?
Yes. The files are 300 DPI PNG and PDF in three frame-standard sizes. Print at home on heavy matte paper, at a local print shop, or through any online printer.
How fast will I get it?
