How to choose a star map design

Every design on this page draws exactly the same sky. Choose the date, time and place of your moment and we compute the position of around 9,000 stars and all 88 constellations for that instant, from the HYG star catalog, for any date between 1900 and 2100. The design only decides how that sky is dressed: the colour of the poster, whether the sky sits in a circle or a heart, and whether there is a photograph behind it.

Start with the room. Dark posters, Galaxy, Moon, Eclipse, Heart, Crimson, Navy and Noir, are strongest on mid-tone and darker walls, above beds and sofas, and in studies. Light posters, Paper, Navy Disc, Black Disc, Heart White and Duotone, suit white walls, nurseries, wedding tables and rooms with a lot of daylight.

Then the occasion. Galaxy and Heart are the romantic pair, for anniversaries, engagements and Valentine’s Day. Moon is the choice for a birth. Navy and Navy Disc are the safe, classic gifts for weddings and parents. Eclipse marks a milestone. Noir and Black Disc are the quiet designs for a memorial. Paper suits a new home and a first anniversary.
