7 Under Lucky Stars Alternatives Compared (2026 Prices)

From their support and FAQ pages:

• Digital: $29 (€29, £25, A$29) for three PDFs at 12x16, 18x24 and 24x36, 300 DPI.
• Unframed print: $130 for 12x16; larger sizes cost more (exact figures are shown in the designer).
• Frames: from $45 / $50 / $65 depending on style, or $50 / $55 / $70 with a mat.
• Shipping: free worldwide for unframed prints; paid for framed. Manufacturing takes 3 business days; delivery is 7 to 10 days to the US, EU and Australia.
• Returns: 30 days for prints that arrive damaged or differ significantly from what was advertised. Digital files are not refundable, though ordering errors are corrected.
• Accuracy: "A NASA astronomer validated the scientific accuracy of our maps."

That is a strong digital product at a fair price and a very expensive print. The alternatives split along the same line.

Our digital file is $25, four dollars under Under Lucky Stars, and contains a 300 DPI PNG plus a print-ready PDF at the same three sizes (12x16, 18x24, 24x36). You see the whole map, watermarked, before you pay and without entering an email. Framed prints are where the gap is widest: $69 for a framed 12x16 with free US shipping, against $130 unframed plus a frame plus shipping at Under Lucky Stars. We also refund digital purchases within 14 days, which they do not.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: brand recognition (a decade of customers), international framed shipping (we frame for the US only at present), and the reassurance of a named third-party validation. We publish our full method on the accuracy page instead, which we think is more useful, but it is a different kind of trust.

Best for: the same digital product for less, or a framed print in the US for roughly half the price. Design one free to compare the result.

The cheapest credible digital star map we found at $14, from a French company that is unusually specific about its data: an HYG v4.2 derived catalogue of 8,921 stars to magnitude 6.5, checked by 238 automated tests. Prints start at $35, and a two-map digital bundle starts at $21.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: design polish and size choice. OwnStarMap's print sizes (US Letter, A2, 16x20, 18x24) are a mixed bag for framing, prints take 10 to 15 business days in total, and personalised prints cannot be returned for a change of mind.

Best for: the lowest price on a genuinely computed file.

The accuracy specialist. GreaterSkies has sold star maps since 2006, names its sources (HYG and the Yale Bright Star Catalog), plots stars to magnitude 7, states a 1900 to 2100 date range and explains why (precession), and prints coordinate grids on the map. Digital files come as JPG and PDF in ten sizes, each rendered at that size rather than scaled. Their refund line is the most generous in the category: a full refund if you are not satisfied, no questions asked.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: looks. GreaterSkies has four styles and a plainer aesthetic. Prices are shown in your local currency (we were quoted in Moroccan dirhams), so we cannot print a USD figure.

Best for: someone who wants the astronomy to be the point.

The biggest brand in the category, with "over 20,000 five star reviews" cited on its homepage. Prints start at $39 on Hahnemühle 200 gsm paper with archival inks, in seven sizes including squares, plus foil, glow-in-the-dark and canvas versions. Production takes up to 3 business days and standard shipping 6 to 10 business days. Returns are accepted within 30 days of receipt.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: digital. The Night Sky only offers a digital file in countries it cannot ship to, and even then the file is non-refundable and non-editable. If you came here looking for a downloadable map, The Night Sky is not the answer.

Best for: a printed piece from the most reviewed name, at a much lower print price than Under Lucky Stars.

A Swedish poster company with star maps as one product line. Posters start at $39 in 11x17, 18x24 and 24x36 on FSC-certified 200 gsm matte paper, with frames and hangers available, delivery in 4 to 10 business days including production, and 30-day returns. The editor offers "100+ themes and styles" across its map types.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: there is no digital file at Mapiful at all, and no accuracy statement anywhere on the site. You are buying décor, and it is good décor, but you cannot check the sky.

Best for: matching a star map to a specific interior or an existing Mapiful city map.

Posters from $55, framed prints in black, white or oak, canvas, and a digital download, produced through a network of partner labs worldwide. Their accuracy page names the Yale Bright Star Catalog and invites you to compare the result in Stellarium. Processing is 3 to 4 business days, then 2 to 20 working days for standard shipping depending on region.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: published pricing. Starrymaps' digital and framed prices were not on the pages we could reach, and their returns policy covers damaged or misdescribed items only.

Best for: a framed print with a choice of frame finish, especially outside the US.

A San Diego company with a bright, colour-led style and a broader catalogue that includes street maps and zodiac maps. Prints start at $55 with free shipping, and a frame can be added at checkout. They state they use "data from NASA" and suggest checking against Stellarium.

Where Under Lucky Stars is better: transparency. On the day we checked, Twinkle In Time's public pages did not state sizes, a delivery window, a refund policy or a digital price.

Best for: their particular palette, or buying a star map and a street map together.
