The frame. A black wood frame with a slim profile. The narrow face keeps the eye on the map rather than the border, and the depth gives it presence on the wall. Black sits well with every one of the twelve designs, from the deep navy and noir skies to the pale paper design.

The front. Shatter-resistant acrylic rather than glass. It is clear, light, and does not break in transit or when a picture hook lets go. It is also the sensible choice for a nursery or a bedroom wall. It arrives with a protective film on each face.

The paper. Heavyweight semi-gloss photo paper. The weight is enough to lie perfectly flat behind the acrylic; the semi-gloss finish gives dark backgrounds their depth without the mirror-like glare of a high gloss.

The mounting. The print is mounted inside the frame, so it stays flat and square with no ripple at the edges.

All three share the same 3:4 proportions, so whichever you choose, the composition is the same one you saw in the preview. If you are unsure, the sizes page has a viewing-distance rule of thumb; the short version is that 18 x 24 is the size most people end up glad they chose for a living room, and 12 x 16 for a nursery or a desk.

When you place the order, the map you designed is rendered at 300 DPI at the exact print size, not scaled up from a smaller file. That render goes to our print partner, who prints it on heavyweight semi-gloss paper, mounts it in the frame, fits the acrylic and the hardware, and packs it for shipping. The whole process, from your order to your door, takes 7 to 12 business days.

The acrylic front is protected by a thin film on both faces. Peel it away slowly from one corner before you hang the frame; the film sometimes carries a little static, which fades within a few minutes. If you see a faint haze or a scuff after unboxing, it is almost always on the film, not the acrylic.

To clean, use a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid paper towels and any cleaner containing ammonia or alcohol, which can cloud acrylic over time. If something needs more than a dry cloth, a barely damp microfibre and then a dry one is enough.

Hang the map out of direct afternoon sun where you can. Semi-gloss photo paper holds its colour well, but every print lasts longer away from a south-facing window. Dark designs such as noir and navy also simply look better with less light striking the surface.
